生存在功利社會(huì)，奔波勞頓，勾心斗角，若想做到從心所欲，難矣哉！人自孩提時(shí)代起，求學(xué)、謀職、戀愛(ài)、成家、立業(yè)、功名、財(cái)富……幾乎無(wú)時(shí)不在追求，而且總也不能滿足。當(dāng)然事業(yè)上的進(jìn)取與物欲上的貪婪，是兩種截然不同的人生觀，或可說(shuō)是兩種內(nèi)涵迥異的苦樂(lè)觀。但有一點(diǎn)是共同的，即人生的道路并非平坦的康莊大道，事物的發(fā)展往往不以人的意志為轉(zhuǎn)移。與其陶醉在“夢(mèng)想成真”的幻覺(jué)中，莫若在實(shí)踐中多多磨礪自己，有道是“蒼天不負(fù)有心人”嘛！即或如此，也未必事事天遂人愿?？傊?，有追求必有煩惱，這就是生活的實(shí)際。

In a business society, where people run about in pursuit of personal gains at the expense of others, it is really difficult to do as you please. Ever since childhood we have been pursuing always; going to school, looking for a job, falling in love, getting married, and striving for success in career and accumulating wealth, but never have we seemed to be contented with ourselves. However, striving for success in career and seeking material profits are two different outlooks or, if you will, two intrinsically different views on what is hardship and what is happiness. But there is one thing that applies in either case, i.e. life is no plain sailing, and things go and grow independent of man’s will. One should instead of indulging in delusions of daydreaming, temper himself in life, as the saying goes, “Heaven does not let down the one that has a will.” Even so, one cannot expect to succeed in everything he undertakes. In short, anyone in pursuit of something is sure to be troubled by something else, and that is the way things are in life.

追逐：in pursuit of，或者直接用動(dòng)詞pursue

本質(zhì)地：intrinsically。如果不知道intrinsic（固有的，本質(zhì)的，內(nèi)在的）這個(gè)詞，可以用basically、fundamentally這一類的詞。也可以用其他方法來(lái)表達(dá)原文中“迥異”這個(gè)概念，如：as different as night and day，或者用diametrically，這個(gè)詞詞根是diameter,直徑。當(dāng)然，想不起來(lái)這么多，用一個(gè)totally也可以表達(dá)出這種例子。大家可以注意多積累一些這樣的同義詞。

康莊大道：這里以“一帆風(fēng)順”的意思來(lái)翻譯：plain sailing，或者用其他意譯方法，表達(dá)出“順利”“沒(méi)有挫折”之類的意思都可以。

幻覺(jué)：delusion。這個(gè)詞與illusion的區(qū)別在于，illusion僅表示“幻覺(jué)，錯(cuò)覺(jué)，幻想”，delusion則有“受騙，騙局；妄想癥”的含義，用來(lái)表達(dá)這里的“幻覺(jué)”一詞，更有“欺騙性的，不真實(shí)的”這種意味。
